I use some bootlegs and they vary, I started with Akuma and anybody who received Akuma at the first G-con used him in their feds because it was the first bootleg and he was the shit at the time. Since then it has been a revolving door. I mainly use them to fill in story lines.

Coming in late to the discussion as well, I have used only a select few in the past several years and only on a limited basis. Umagapotimus and Moral Majority popped up in the GWF last year. I am using the Northstar Express from the Norhtern Outlaw set in Midnight Revolution Wrestling right now, but that's about as far as it goes. I like to keep it as official as possible for the most part.

In my early 2087 fed that I ran as a teenager in the late 90s, I used many bootlegs to fill out my roster, mostly cruiserweights and tag teams. The cruiserweights were stronger than most 2087 wrestlers, but WCW was running their division like crazy at the time, so I felt I had to have one too. Of the tag teams that I used, I had the Satanic Forces, the Illusionaries, and the New Dorado Sundown (a team that Necro Butcher exchanged with me that paired up Chad Olson and Barnestormer's creations). All were tag champs at some point, but didn't run over the Gladiators, Greek Gods, or Animal Pack either. All bootlegs were later phased out of GWF completely.
A couple of years ago, I re-calibrated all of my bootlegs and ran a bootleg promotion where I used GWFZ wrestlers in it. So it was sort of the other way around. About six months ago I tried to reboot a promotion that used mainly GWFZ guys, some bootlegs, and some official aCe, CPC, and GWF guys from previous sets that I always liked but never got a chance to use that much. I recently looked back at the roster I had selected at the time, and it appears that most of the bootlegs that I used in that fed will in fact be getting official cards in GWFZ Territories.

I use mainly bootleg wrestlers in my fed with real wrestlers, usually guys from WWE, some New Japan, TNA, WCW, ECW, and even local talents. The local guys are people my brother has worked with in the state independents (he's usually an interviewer or ring announcer, sometimes commentary.)

I only use bootleg characters in my GWFZ and Indy feds. But the characters in use would have to be balanced enough where they couldn't be a problem with the official sets I play. It's okay for the dice to be in one's favor. But otherwise, it's really the player's choice.

For a long time the answer was no, but Swarm's NWA, Hardys and Decay were too much to resist and they are intermixed with my Indys now.

I run separate feds for bootlegs. I try and follow the GWF as close to the handbooks as possible.
