The brackets are out, and this looks like it should be a really great tournament. I'm kind of looking forward to that Kendrick/Steen match, and what happens between Mark Briscoe and Adam Cole will probably set the tone for where the rest of that bracket (and the tournament) goes from there. I predict that whoever wins that one is going to end up in the finals, and it could go either way depending on what story they're looking to tell here. www.rohwrestling.com/news/1st-round-has-been-set

Some nifty stuff on tap, I'm hoping for Elgin/Cole as the final with an eventual rematch at a major show next year.

Either ROH pisses New Japan off and jobs Machine Gun to ACH or Machine Gun's going to be busting ass from Tokyo to NYC to be at Manhattan Mayhem.

I'm hoping this begins ACH's singles push with a win or two. He won't win the whole thing, but I could see him getting a TV title win in the fall after a good showing here. Here are my predictions for Round 1: Adam Cole over Mark Briscoe Jay Lethal over Sonjay Dutt ACH over Karl Anderson Tommaso Ciampa over Silas Young/Adam Page Michael Bennett over BJ Whitmer Kevin Steen over Brian Kendrick Michael Elgin over Paul London Roderick Strong over World TV Champion Matt Taven Hardest matches for me to call are Strong-Taven and Bennett-Whitmer. I see the finals coming down to Cole and Elgin, with Cole winning and being the top heel in ROH managed by Steve Corino.

I see practically no way ACH is beating Anderson. Much more likely is Anderson going into round two to face Elgin in a rematch from earlier this year. That way Elgin can avenge his loss and pick up some momentum heading into the finals, where he'll beat either Briscoe or Cole to win.

I waited forever for Jay Briscoe to win the ROH Title, he finally does, and they fire him for a tweet.
I don't give a fuck who wins this tournament. Not the real champ far as I'm concerned.
edit: Steen is the only guy I can buy winning it.

Elgin makes the most sense and was probably going to win the title at the show in Toronto anyway. If Elgin or Cole don't win then holy fuck there's some stupid people booking this tournament.

I disagree. I'd have Steen win, then Elgin or Cole can chase him. Elgin or Cole beating Steen in the finals could work I suppose.

Looking at the bracket, Elgin vs. Steen is likely going to end up as a semifinal. I wouldn't have Steen beat Elgin again. Elgin's had too many big losses to be fed another one and still be a credible threat to the title. Cole's going to the finals, there's nobody else in his block that's believable other than Mark Briscoe and I don't even think he'd make it to the finals. Cole/Elgin is a fresh matchup in ROH's main event scene. If Steen wins the title it's nothing but back to the same type of stuff he was doing for a year against the same guys and it's not going to work near as well now because Steen's been champion. The whole reason people liked his first title reign was because it was finally him as champion and he beat a champion everyone turned on. If he wins the title again, especially beating (in theory) Elgin and Cole, you're pretty much killing two new main event guys and giving the belt back to someone with nothing to do with it.
