Was checking out their Kick Starter and talking with a few bros about it. Im not RPG guy, never have been. Only played GWF. But my buddies, like a lot of people in this community, play lots of RPG games (like MTG) and are very familiar with how these things work.
And what was explained to me was that GFP is going to have things like wax sealed packs (like other cards games like MAGIC THE GATHERING). They are going to have common cards, uncommon and rare cards. Even foil card, again like MTG and Pokémon. Seems like GFP is doing all the right things.
First of all, major props to the GFP guys. My first comment was “good for them.” Seems like put a lot of consistent high energy into their product. But the conversation steered more into why these things never happened with FG? 30 years into this ride and fans are still complaining about damaged cards and poor packaging.
In this community, we’re going backwards, actually removing rare and exclusive cards from the rotation. Why do these things work for GFP but not FG?
And would you want to see things like common cards, uncommon and rare cards in COTG and LOW?
I don’t see why the heck not.
What are everybody else’s thoughts on GFP basically passing FG by in terms of presenting these things for their fans?

I was there for the beginning of MTG in 1992 and have seen MANY ccgs come and go since, playing MANY of them. I've played and collected MTG, L5R, Pokemon (for sons mostly), Raw Deal, Deadlands, Warhammer 40K and several others. It's a cutthroat market and 90% of CCGs fade, only MTG, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh have stood the test of time. It's about marketing and GFP seems to have it and FG hasn't for many years now, that along with passion. I have two buddies that own comic shops here in the Columbus metro area and both agreed to carry and sell the starter boxes of COTG in their stores. I told Tom and Todd about this and.... it went nowhere. It seems to me that there is no interest in growing FG into the gaming mainstream. Why? IM SURE I don't know. It seems GFP has the drive, determination and passion to grow and best of luck to them. Just too bad FG doesn't share those qualities.

How did I forget VS system CCG, I played that ccg competitively for years. It's been a dead ccg for over 15 years now but look up the cards they still hold their value because people loved the game and still play it. It has since made a comeback but not as a ccg (collectable card game), but rather as what they call a living card game (no rarity to cards) and is NOT nearly as popular.

Tom Filsinger loved and played VS, we talked about it many times at Galacticon. He should have a good understanding of how to sell, market and distribute a ccg. VS system was a Marvel and DC superhero collectable card game.

Warhammer 40K ccg was probably the best (IMO) ccg ever made and we enjoyed the hell out of it, but screw over your fan base just ONCE and they will never come back. Just ask SABERTOOTH GAMES!

I think FG has found a comfort zone and is fine not growing their game into the mainstream gaming community. If that's not true, then why don't they do Conventions anymore like they used to? ORIGINS, GENCON, MOTOR CITY CON, PITTSBURGH COMICCON or even the biggie SAN DIEGO COMIC CON. I helped in the booth at both Origins and GenCon and sold a LOT of sets, the game was well received. So why not do them anymore?
IMO, FG should be on the shelves of EVERY gaming and comic store in the country - but that's just me.
If GFP keeps going like they are, they will be in every gaming and comic store - right next to MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh!

I harped on this for years and years and years on the official boards and no one ever seemed to get it. The Filsinger Games product is NOT a collectible card game, but there are elements of the collectors market that could have been adapted. Chase cards or rare parallels, limited edition versions of the sets (like a gold background version of the basic set limited in number), etc. The releases that make people think "OMG, I have to act now" are few and far between. And when something like convention exclusive is released now to make people participate to avoid the FOMO (fear of missing out) the long timers complain because it won't be available for everyone forever.
Marketing has always been a real problem with Filsinger Games past the ad in PWI era. I see SO many missed opportunities just from having a little knowledge of the gaming and CCG market as a long time player of those games. Go Fight Pow has looked at all of that stuff, many of the genres Eric was not familiar with before, and adapted the marketing strategies to make people who might otherwise ignore it take a look. I give that team much credit. I am forever frustrated Filsinger Games won't do the same.

I appreciate all of the kind words about GFP. I just do what I know to make things work. As a propane sales and delivery specialist in the real world, if you don't grow, you don't gain anything. I've always had that mindset with the game. Also I've just always had that creative bone, and this is my outlet to express it. I just try to give people what they want and listen to the fan base, as just like in my regular job, the customer dictates whether I stay stagnate or succeed. If you've checked out the game, thank you. If you haven't yet, it really is a neat little corner of the galaxy. We've come a long ways since we first started. Our cards and mechanics have advanced rules, we have specialty matches and other things. Feel free to check out the game at gofightpow.fws.store for our current editions of the game. Kickstarter has a Jump On Point with some key sets that you can add on. Those will ship first after the campaign ends so you can get to playing sooner. We have some fun add ons as well. If you have any questions about anything, I'll try to help.
I've will create an account again and not be a stranger. Have a great week everyone.
