Welcome to our special edition of In The Zone as we come to you with a LIVE review of this month’s PPV spectacular, UPRISING!!! Several high-profile feuds seem to be reaching their culmination and the biggest names in the company are all involved in high profile matches. Add that to the continuing saga of Disaster and a rumored appearance by Swarm…well, it
should be a very entertaining show.
Let’s go down to Vanity and DragonMaster for the call:
THE
AND
SOYLENT GREEN…IT’S PEOPLE!
PRESENTS…
DragonMaster: Welcome all you GWF Fedheads! Welcome to UPRISING. I think the big question of the night is: will there be a real ‘uprising’ tonight? Will men like Endgame and Bloodline be able to break the hold of our power mad owner Tom Filsinger or will Filsinger’s Inner Circle finally take total control of the GWF?
Vanity: Power mad? How dare you besmirch the name of our owner, Tom Filsinger? He is a brilliant businessman. He is a generous employer. He is an ingenuous wrestling promoter. And he is…I’m not afraid to admit it…a strikingly attractive man.
DragonMaster: Excuse me?
Vanity: He’s attractive. I can’t help it. His rugged good looks transcend sexual boundaries. I must say….I’d do him.
DragonMaster: …..
Vanity: What?
DragonMaster: Let’s go to the ring.
The Troubleshooters (w/Phantasy) (c) vs. The Gladiators (Rush & Havoc) Great opener. The crowd was hot for both teams and they really pressed the tempo. Havoc hit a FALLEN DREAMS within minutes of the bell ringing on Muss and then ducked a big clothesline and drilled The Bomb with a FALLEN DREAMS too! The Glads were totally in control until Muss ducked a charge outside the ring and Havoc went face-first into a ringpole. The ‘Shooters wore down havoc over the next five plus minutes, double-teaming repeatedly and working him over in the corner. The Bomb scored consecutive near fall with a Bombs Away DDT and a choke slam. It looked like thing were over when The Bomb went up top…TROUBLE TIMES TWO…NOOOooooooo!!!
The Bomb misses and Havoc tags out. Rush charges in and
he’s on fire!!! He hits Air Aethran for a two-count! Top rope cross body for another near fall! Muss comes in to make the save…but he’s drilled by Havoc. All four men are in the ring. The referee can’t control the brawl! Havoc and Rush hit a double enziguiri to send Muss out of the ring. Rush hits Bomb with a Gladiator Piledriver. He goes up top while the referee clears Havoc off the top rope. Phantasy takes advantage and distracts Rush for a minute…that’s long enough…The Bomb climbs the turnbuckle AVALANCHE TROUBLESHOOTER PRESS SLAM!!! 1..2..3!!! The Shooters get another win over The Gladiators by the skin of their teeth.
The Troubleshooter by pin-fall ***The Shooters and Phantasy are celebrating in the ring when Havoc and Rush charge the ring and continue brawling. All four men spill outside the ring. Phantasy is standing in the ring, screaming for someone to stop the brawl when all of a sudden
HERE COMES THE JUNGLE BEATS!!! It’s Thrill of the Chase’s music! Shann-Ra charges down the ramp and starts the next match!
Shann-Ra (c) vs. Phantasy – GWF Women’s Title Shann-Ra drills Phantasy with a cartwheel kick and then a spinning DDT! 1..2….Nooooo! Phantasy is in deep trouble. Shann-Ra is relentlessly pressing the attack. Phantasy rolls out of the ring….Shann-Ra goes for a plancha off the ropes…Phantasy ducks out of the way and Shann-Ra splats on the gorund! Phantasy rolls the champ back in to continue the attack. She gets a two-count and then locks in SWEET SUICIDE but Shann-Ra gets to the ropes to break the hold. Phantasy drags Shann-Ra to her feet and delivers some teeth-rattling forearm uppercuts. Phantasy whips the champion into the ropes…ducks for the back-body drop….SUNSET FLIP OUT OF NOWHERE BY SHANN-RA…1…2..3! Whoah…the match started then ended on a dime. Good action, even if it was a little short.
Shann-Ra by pin-fall **1/2--We get LIVE footage from the opening of the new GWF themed restaurant/nightclub in Capital City on Deimos. It’s the party of the year! It’s the GRAND OPENING of …
Some of the biggest names of the industry are here: Lord Nexus! Ms Liberty (definitely a MILF)! Twin Blood: Dreggs and Sleeze along with their former manager (and GWFZ head-of-development) Johnny Rocket! Vendetta (always ready for a party)! Max Shield! And…is that…yes it is…THE CROWD POPS FOR AN APPEARANCE BY WOLF!!!
But the night wouldn’t be complete without an appearance by some of the new blood in the GWF. Cameras zoom in on a man who was a multimedia star and famous Gravity Ball star long before he stepped in a GWF ring: OVERTIME!
Overtime is schmoozing the cameras and playing to the fans, arrogantly talking about how this PPV is going to “suck” without him there…
WHEN HE’S BUMRUSHED FROM BEHIND!!! ZOMG!!1!WTF??? IT’S SWARM!Swarm begins pummeling Overtime on the ground, kicking him repeatedly before dragging him to his feet. He tosses Overtime down some steps, into the restaurant, and
chucks him head-first into the salad bar!!!Police surround the Loose Cannon. DragonMaster doesn’t seem to know how to react: “Is he insane? That’s not a wrestling ring. What he just did is assault and battery.”
The police seem to agree. As the crowd boos, they handcuff Swam and haul him off to a waiting squad cruiser. Overtime tries to recover as we go back to the ring.
Anivar & Meat Lover’s Special vs. Tauran & The Colonizers (Epoch & Slave Beast) This is one of those matches where I learned a lesson: never make assumptions. Here I was, all ready to write about how repetitive this feud has gotten (even with Tauran getting zapped and turned into a wrinkly old fart) when the Fed gave me a ~SWERVE! The good guys dominated early before American Guy got hung out to dry in the corner. But Slave Beat missed a turnbuckle charge and Guy was able to tag in Anivar, who cleaned house on The Colonizers like he usually does. Anivar drilled Beast with a spinebuster, and went for the cover, but the referee is distracted. Bounty Hunter is at ringside? Anivar gets to his feet, and he is totally oblivious as Kill Prey slides into the ring. Anivar turns around
and gets leveled by a kendo stick shot!!! The referee turns around and calls for the DQ.
Anivar & MLS by DQ **After the match, The Colonizers and Bounty Hunter and Kill Prey continue the beating. The overwhelm Guy and Minotaur. Antak charges down to make the save, but he gets a face-full of kendo stick too!! US Male eventually arrives swinging a chair wildly and the baddies clear out. Epoch grabs a mic as they walk up the ramp: “You outmaneuvered me when you aged Tauran, Anivar…but a good conqueror always has a counter-move. So I brought in an “outside consulting firm.” Meet the newest members of The Colonizers….THRILL OF THE CHASE!”
The men play to the crowd as the audience boos the announcement.
--We get Holo-Vid footage of Tanck “earning” his IP title shot by doing GWF Commissioner Massif’s dirty work, including some cheap wins over Paralyze.
’Sensational’ Sonny Owens (c) vs. Tanck – Interplanetary TitleOwens has made his name by putting on spectacular matches with other athletic workers. So it probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that a match with a power based brawler was a bit disjointed. But it was still disappointing. Whenever Owens got some momentum, Tanck managed to toss him out of the ring. Which made sense from a ring psychology standpoint, but sure as hell wasn’t fun to watch. Eventually Owens gets enough momentum to catch a near fall with Air Titan and then follows up with SENSATIONALIZED…1…2…TANCK GETS HIS FOOT ON THE ROPE! Tanck recovers and rolls out of the ring. Yes, again. Owens tries to leap at him but Tanck tosses a chair which barely glances off Sonny, but he sells it like he was shot with a Zrgrzzdl Rifle! Tanck hoists Owens up…powerbomb on the ring floor. The ref is still counting. Tanck rolls in as he hits eight….nine…ten! A count out win? Seriously? An iffy ending for an iffy match. But at least this means we should definitely get a rematch! Yay! [/sarcasm]
Tanck by count-out *1/2--Disaster is seen walking backstage, accompanied by two GWF Security Guards when he is confronted by Paralyze and Thrash
Paralyze: “WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM? ARE YOU NUTS???” Paralyze shoves Disaster and Thrash tries to get between them.
Thrash: “Calm down, P…Disaster, this isn’t like you....Aethrans always stick together..”
Paralyze: “Damn it, that doesn’t surprise me. Hell, we’ve had ‘family feuds’ before. Spike, Vengeance, even Disaster has stood against the Gladiators before this. But at least they had a reason. This is insane. WE RESCUED YOU FROM KIDNAPPER!! WHAT THE F-“
But before Paralyze can continue Disaster snap. He shoves Paralyze into the wall and then snatches Thrash up and drives her into the ground with RAMNPAGE! Paralyze kneels down to check on her condition. Disaster seems shocked by what he’s done. He speaks but the words are slurred and slow: “WHAAT …HAVE…I…?” But Disaster doesn’t finish his sentence; he moans and grabs his head and staggers off down the hall as Paralyze calls for medical attention for Thrash.
Encubus vs. Amazing Mann – Submission Match This was as brutal and physical a match as you could imagine. Both men opened up with brawling early and Encubus used his high power offense to put Mann on the defensive. For the first part of the match, it looked like Encubus would just pound Mann into submission, but the Amazing One turned the tables and soon he was using a series of submission holds to wear down Thantos Jr. But Encubus continued to struggle out of hold after hold and not even the CONTORTION ended the match. But it was becoming apparent that Encubus might be outmatched in this kind of setting. Mann went again on the offensive, this time sending Encubus to the outside. That left an opening, however.
Thantos attacked Mann on the outside, applying the MASTERLOCK to the crowd’s delight! Strutter tried to interfere, but this just distracted the ref and allowed Thantos to maintain the hold even longer. Finally, Thantos tosses Mann back into the ring, where he walks into a GAMEMASTER DDT! And then another! AND ANOTHER! Mann is up and staggering around the ring….Encubus moves in for the kill….Satanic Skull Smasher….MASTERLOCK!
Mann struggles and writhes and eventually fights out of the hold. But he’s standing in the corner and Encubus delivers a SECOND COMING! MASTERLOCK AGAIN!
Mann struggles…struggles…AMAZING MANN SUBMITS! Thantos comes in and raises his son’s arm in victory!
Encubus by submission ***1/2--Backstage, GWF Owner Tom Filsinger is sitting in his office when he gets a phone call:
“TOOOOOM! How’s it hangin’ sweet cheeks?”
“Who is this?”
“It’s me….SWARM!” (crowd pops!) I’m using my one phone call to talk to you..”
“What the hell do you want?”
“Just wanted to give you a warning….”
“
?”
“Use the security cams….check on your starcruiser…”
Tom suddenly looks enraged. His brand new ivory colored Marscedes Starhopper 500 SL is his pride and joy. He turns to his security system to check on his private parking dock and…
“IT’S GONE!!! WHAT DID YOU DO YOU SONOVAB*TCH!??”
“Hey…how could I do anything? I’m in jail for kicking your boy’s a$$, remember? I’ll be in here for a few days..but I guess that’s ok since I’m suspended for a couple more weeks..”
“WEEKS??? WEEKS?? YOUR SUSPENSION HAS BEEN EXTENDED FOR 90 DAYS!!!!”
Tom Filsinger slams the phone down.
“I HATE THAT BUG!!!!”
Switchblade vs. Bloodline – No Interference Allowed Another tremendous match: Bloodline controlled the match early and seemed eager to finish things off as he hit several high impact moves. But Switchblade slowed the pace and eventually was able to avoid a handspring clothesline and deliver a vicious boot to the face. Blade kept Bloodline grounded and managed to cut him open with Real Retribution. He brilliantly worked the ref into position and continued to rake a razor across Bloodline’s forehead. Bloodline played face-in-peril for the next few minutes, avoiding near falls repeatedly. Switchblade, now in total control, made a cocky motion and climbed up top. SB comes off with a high cross body…
but Bloodline delivers a dropkick in mid-air!!Now Bloodline is in control and quickly goes to finish the match. Nebula Knee Breaker for a two count. CETUS MASTERLOCK, but Switchblade gets to the ropes. Shining Star for another near fall. Now Switchblade is in deep trouble. Blooodline tosses him into the turnbuckle and charges in but Blade gets both knees up at the last possible moment. Bloodline is staggered…FAITH! Switchblade hits FAITH out of nowhere! 1….2…Noooo! Bloodline kicks out.
Switchblade gets to his feet. He crouches down, stalking his opponent. Bloodline struggles to his feet, stumbles forward, and Switchblade deliver a kick to the stomach…FAITH!!! Switchblade hits his patented Implant DDT one more time and makes the cover…1…2….3!!! It took two finishers but Switchblade gets the win.
Switchblade by pin-fall ***1/2--A Holo-Vid plays to recap the feud between Endgame and Anarchy
Main EventEndgame (c) vs. Anarchy – GWF Universal Title Anarchy looked strong early, but Endgame delivered another dominant performance to hold onto his title.
Anarchy opened the match by tossing Endgame around like a rag-doll. Endgame tried to counter off the ropes but Anarchy crushed him with a giant clothesline. Anarchy used his size and strength, but was unable to really do any lasting damage. Even after hitting To Hell & back, Endgame was able to recover and deliver a rolling elbow smash.
A frustrated Anarchy took the match outside, but again Anarchy came up short, missing a leg drop and crashing onto the ring steps. Endgame smashes Anarchy into the announce table then tosses the big man into the ring. Anarchy turns around right into a Michinoku Driver for a two-count. Endgame follows with a Northern Lights Bomb for another near fall. Endgame goes up top to deliver a flying cross body, but Anarchy kicks out again!
Frustrated, Endgame charges off the ropes and Anarchy delivers a giant boot to the head. Anarchy hits a Black Hole Slam for a two-count. Anarchy flings Endgame to the ring floor, then follows with a suicide dive over the top ropes that brings the crowd to its feet. Anarchy goes to deliver a powerbomb on the ring floor, but Endgame blocks the move, lifts Anarchy off the ground,
and delivers an Air Raid Crash onto the pavement!! Endgame tosses Anarchy into the ring….picture perfect Michinoku Driver ..1..2..3!!
Endgame by pin-fall ***Endgame celebrates with the fans as the show …
**FADE TO BLACK**
Over-all: 7/10 Nothing surprising or shocking. But the matches were solid and a somewhat thin card was filled out with the Disaster/Paralyze segment and the mini-storyline featuring Mr. Filsinger, Swarm, and Overtime. The segments were a little predictable, but entertaining. Switchblade and Bloodline put on the match of the night. But nothing was really bad. Just a solidly booked PPV that was more about the matches than any swerves. What’s interesting is where the company goes next: Endgame has dominated the Universal Title, but is it time for a change? And how scary can Filsinger be as an authority figure if his guys always come up short in their feuds? Some pretty big rivalries seemed to come to their conclusion tonight. What’s next?
