So tonight in Toronto, Bennett faced BJ Whitmer. Sixteen years to the day after Steve Austin ended up damn near paralyzed by a piledriver, what does this motherfucker do? A piledriver ON THE APRON to BJ Whitmer and he DOESN'T EVEN PROTECT HIM. The stupid fucking spots on the apron have to stop. BJ was able to move and talk after this but holy crap. This is what's wrong with indie wrestling. These spots are going to end up completely ruining someone's career with the way they're going. Fuck Mike Bennett for even doing this spot, fuck him for not protecting BJ Whitmer.

Here's a video, you can clearly see he doesn't protect BJ at all.

I don't know why someone hasn't told Bennett to quit using that ugly-ass, improperly executed piledriver way before this anyway. There was a whole lot wrong with the way that move went down judging by that footage. HOWEVER, it takes two men to work into that spot. BJ has proven time and again since he came back that he's not afraid to take very dangerous bumps on his head and neck, and maybe it's time for someone in the company to start protecting him from himself because he clearly has no self control. That said, and we've had this conversation before and I've written this online in the past, apron spots have GOT to be scaled back in ROH. They are no longer special when they're used in half the matches on a show, and there's so little room for error (literally and figuratively) that it's just not worth it. BUUUUT, someone got a big crowd reaction and a chant for it one time and monkey-see, monkey do kicked in. When Mike Bennett is doing dangerous apron spots, monkey business has got to end.

Not sure who's to blame for that (maybe both guys) but damn that was nasty. Glad Whitmer is ok. Read he is walking around just fine today luckily.

Glad Whitmer is ok. Read he is walking around just fine today luckily. Even today his agility is still probably not +2, though. (I can joke because he's apparently okay.....and I wholeheartedly disagree with that agility rating).

He's also a "powerhouse" by Indy standards. I realize + ag and pw aren't powerful but some guys deserve it. He's not agile at all. Not compared to his ROH opponents at least.

I do appreciate your thought out responses, but we've hit that old "Cowboy Bob Orton's pw rating" impasse where I will just not be convinced.
At any rate, some of the ROH crew has visited him in the hospital and say he seems to be in good spirits. Even saw that a few photos popped up on social media. He's sporting a neck brace but it looks like he may have dodged any serious injury.
Also, I saw a selection of photos that ROH posted on their facebook page. There were no fewer than three other apron moves pictured. When those moves just become something you do in a match, there's no reason to do them anymore. Might as well be a body slam at that point, because the fans will quit reacting like it's a big deal when they see it constantly. I hope this was a wakeup call that ROH needs to reign this in a little, and without a doubt they need to be more aware of head drop type moves done on the apron. There's too much risk for serious injury with too little reward.

The apron double stomp that the Wolves do is a move I don't have much of a problem with but if dudes were bumping on the apron after what happened to BJ...holy shit.

The other stuff looked pretty safe. Sliced Bread #2 by Kendrick on Steen was one. There's something with London and Elgin but I can't tell what actually happened since Elgin's on the apron and London's mid-air. I think there was one other I can't recall. Nothing was in the same league as that piledriver as far as being dangerous and ill advised. The point is that when you're seeing those moves in three or four matches per show then they're no longer special and there's no need to risk injury for the diminishing returns.
ROH has just stated that Whitmer announced via twitter that he's being released from the hospital this evening. Very good news.
