FROM LORDS OF PAIN Santino Marella reportedly announced his retirement from in-ring action at tonight's WWE live event in Toronto. Santino told the crowd that he has suffered his third neck injury.
We noted before that Santino mentioned in a recent interview that his career was winding down and was interested in staying with WWE in a non-wrestling role.

he had a rather good career all things considered. Hopefully he manages to have a good career outside the ring as well.

Agree, you knew he was never going to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but he was the last man eliminated in the 40 man Royal Rumble. I was always entertained by him, and isn't that the whole point? I will say his run as Boris Alexiov (think I spelled that right) down in OVW was on the complete other end of the spectrum to the Santino Marella gimmick. Fear the Cobra!

I wish him well in retirement. One of the better characters in recent years, too bad WWE stopped coming up with new ways to use him a long time ago. I hated the sock gimmick, but his time with Beth Phoenix was gold. I was at the Rumble live where he got eliminated in less than a second by Kane. Hilarious.
